Cambridge chest rib pain clinics are based in Central Cambridge and Waterbeach. Therapy is provided by our an osteopath with osteopathy and prescriptive exercise to treat and manage chest pain, back pain and rib pain. Therapy is conservative and non-invasive aimed at treating the joints and surrounding soft tissues around chest and ribs. We try to make it as painless as possible.

What Conditions Cause Chest Pain?

Asthma – a common long-term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs.

Costochrondritis –  inflammation of the costal cartilage, the structure that connects each rib to the sternum at the costosternal joint.

Tietze’s Syndrome – a benign inflammation of one or more of the costal cartilages.

What Medical Conditions Can Cause Chest Pain?

COPD –  a type of obstructive lung disease characterized by long-term breathing problems and poor airflow. Repetitve coughing can aggravate the joints and surrounding soft tissues at the front and back of the chest.

Bronchitis –  an inflammation of the bronchi (large and medium-sized airways) in the lungs. Symptoms include coughing up mucus, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest discomfort. Repetitve coughing can aggravate the joints and surrounding soft tissues at the front and back of the chest.

Heart and Lung pain referral (Red flag)

Osteopaths can manage the mechanical chest pain, back pain and rib pain, though you may need to be referred to your GP or specialist doctor as well

In some cases with the medical causes of chest pain, it is likely that the Osteopath will need to refer you to your GP or Specialist doctor for treatment and further investigation.
